Antique Chinese Soapstone Floral Carving

Sorry, this item has sold.

Late 19th or early 20th century Chinese floral carving featuring chrysantemums, leaves and a bird. Intricately carved in a light brown soapstone that has sienna streaks throughout. It sits on a base - the base is 2.5" tall and the entire carving is 12" tall. It has 4 legs and the base is pretty intricate too, the three feet in front are carved in a 3 toed manner, the back leg is just thick and meant to be real stable. You can see the chisel marks undernead and in area's on the front. A needle was used to detail the leaves, the centers of the flowers and the birds eye and wing. It is absolutely a wonderful piece.

These were often used as warmers as soapstone retains heat well. Soapstone has been carved for thousands of years, all over the world and has been used as art and also for utilitarian purposes as bowls, pots and the like. Now it is being used for countertops and sinks. It is a metamorphic rock, made mostly of talc and magnesium. Some soapstone is harder than others.

There are no chips, cracks or missing pieces, it is in excellent antique condition. It is also very heavy weighing 5 lbs. There are no marks on it to indicate who made it.

I saw an item like this on EBay for less. Can you match the price?

No.

Can you hold an item until I get paid?

No. I have done this before, taken the item out of inventory and then the person never bought. This causes me to have to pay to re-list the item and miss out on other potential sales. Please do not ask me to do this.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, I do!
