1850s E Challinor Ironstone Transferware "Panama"

Sorry, this item has sold.

Oh my this plate is so awesome! It is not only transferware but also Ironstone. It was made by E. Challinor between 1843 and 1862. After that, he teamed with his brother and it was E & C Challinor. The pattern is called Panama. In the center is a large castle like house with tons of trees and a bridge, definitely looks like Panama. Around the edge is a beautiful design of stripes, acanthas, and round pictures of the castle. The background is a taupe color.

It is 9.75" in diameter and has 1.75" depressions around the outer edge. On the back, as you can see in the pics, are some blackish looking circles. It looks like mold but I can assure you it isn't. Whatever it is, it is embedded into the pottery. I am thinking, maybe it is from heat. There is one spot on the front side too but it isn't round, it's a small line. There are no chips, nicks, crazing or cracks. It is a very fine piece of antique transferware! It's heavy, but the shipping cost is worth it.

How much is a custom mermaid?

It depends on the size and the work involved. Custom mermaids start at $50.

I saw an item like this on EBay for less. Can you match the price?

No.

Can you hold an item until I get paid?

No. I have done this before, taken the item out of inventory and then the person never bought. This causes me to have to pay to re-list the item and miss out on other potential sales. Please do not ask me to do this.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, I do!
