Unusual piece of lusterware from the 40s. It is turquoise blue souvenir featuring China Town and The Golden Gate in San Francisco. When you look down inside of the cup, you see it looks like a carved face but when you hold it up to the light you see it is a lithopane of a beautiful Geisha Girl.
What else is interesting about this set is that the China Town decal is not in its proper place, it's a little too high and too close to the handle. And I am afraid that the painter of this piece was probably fired (if he wasn't, he should have been!) There are spots that were just missed, yet on the handle the color goes up on the handle. Just a little sloppy for such a gorgeous cup. I have tried to show that in the pictures. The gilding is also not quite right. Also around the top edge of the cup, there are
a couple of areas that didn't get the clear glaze and it's just a tiny bit of plain porcelain.
There are no marks at all on it but I really thought it made it extra charming because it probably wasn't even meant to be sold. But most of all, the lithopane is really special, especially because that was usually done on dragon sets, I have been unable to find one quite like this cutie.

No. I have done this before, taken the item out of inventory and then the person never bought. This causes me to have to pay to re-list the item and miss out on other potential sales. Please do not ask me to do this.
